Hallway storage planning
Coat depth in narrow Latin Quarter entries
Historic Aarhus doorways rarely exceed 95 cm clear width once the front door opens. Bulky winter coats on hangers need 65 cm of depth minimum; we test your widest parka on site before locking shelf dimensions.
Shallow wall hooks suit summer layers but fail in December when every household member adds a down jacket. We alternate full-depth sections with slim vertical hooks for bags and scarves.
Shoe tiers that survive muddy seasons
Trøjborg walks to the forest bring grit indoors unless shoe storage includes a drain tray or removable mat liner. We specify open slatted shelves for wet boots and closed drawers for clean indoor slippers.
Family counts matter: four adults with running shoes each need roughly 80 cm of horizontal rack space or four vertical slots. We count pairs during the visit rather than guessing from room size alone.
Parcel and post shelf height
Courier deliveries to Aarhus apartment blocks often land in hallway cubbies too small for flat-pack boxes. A mid-height parcel shelf at 90 cm catches packages without blocking the peephole sightline.
When building bylaws restrict hallway modifications, freestanding narrow cabinets on castors can provide the same capacity without fixing to listed stairwell walls.
Mirror and bench integration
Entry benches with under-seat storage solve sit-down shoe changes in long narrow halls. Mirror placement above the bench uses reflected light from the front door without creating glare into neighbouring flats across the landing.
We note ceiling cornice heights in pre-war Latin Quarter buildings where floor-to-ceiling casework would look visually heavy against original plaster mouldings.
Lighting for dark north-facing halls
Many Aarhus C stairwells receive little daylight. We mark LED strip zones inside cupboards and motion-sensor placement so you are not fumbling for coat pockets in October evenings.
STO-03 deliverables include a plan view with traffic arrows showing door swing, pram storage, and emergency egress clearance. Fee: €340 per pricing schedule.
